Marine Surveyors of Pleasure Craft and Small Commercial Vessels Our general purpose is to increase the level of safety awareness in the pleasure craft in Canada. We at CAMS are Canadian Accredited Marine Surveyors and Canadian Transport Canada licensed deck and engineering crew. We have been involved in various capacities in the Canadian Marine Industry for over 40 years. Our main purpose is to provide a higher level of pleasure craft marine surveying in Canada and to test and certify potential new pleasure craft marine surveyors. According to Transport Canada, the number of boating related incidents resulting in claims and injuries was substantially higher in 2020 compared to previous years. This could be attributed to the increase in number of boaters in 2020 as this recreational activity involved social distancing. At CAMS our ultimate goal is to reduce pleasure craft incidents which result in injury or loss of life by education and awareness of pleasure craft vessel criteria. Some of these criteria are vessel structure, propulsion systems, electrical, steering and others. At CAMS, by testing and certifying existing and upcoming pleasure craft marine surveyors we hope to establish a minimum standard for all. Existing pleasure craft surveyors with limited or no formal certification, who have some experience, will be able to attain accreditation through CAMS education and testing.
